Legionnaires’ disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia caused by legionella bacteria.
Following the outbreak of the disease in Scotland, the Health and Safety Executive has reminded employers and those with responsibility for the control of premises that it has a website providing information on how to control risks from exposure to Legionella from manmade water systems
There may be a risk of exposure to Legionella if your workplace or premises has any of the following:
• A cooling tower or evaporative condenser;
• Hot and cold water systems;
• Spa pools; or
• Other potential risk systems, such as humidifiers, air washers, emergency showers, indoor fountains etc.
The website contains practical guidance on how to manage and control the risks in your system in compliance with your responsibilities under health and safety law.
The website can be found here.
